Constructing the Big Ideas

Think of an assessment story, or experience you have had when you were a student?

  • How did this experience impact you?

  • What assessment experiences would you like to create with your students?

As you explore, use the stems below to help frame assessment pieces that you will need to attend to. What areas do you need more support in?

  •  Am I familar with the curriulums and content I will be teaching this year?

  •  Am I familiar with the students?

  • How will I become familar with the students I will be teaching?

  • What will I do with the information I gather from students?

  • Are the learning targets clearly stated and posted?

  • Where are the outcomes posted?

  • Have the outcomes been included and or connected to the assignment?

  • Does your assessment tool accurately assess the outcome?

  • Have I provided an opportunity for students to show evidence of learning at a deeper level?

  • Are there both formative and summative assessments included in my planning?

  • Is the rubric clear?

  • If there was an opportunity to co-construct the rubric together with the students, did I incorporate that strategy?

  • Have I provided opportunities for feedback?

  • Have I given time for students to do something with the feedback?

This powerpoint provides an overview of essential componets involved in assessment.  The speaker notes include clarifications and further develop understandings.

This is the video perspective of the powerpoint which provides an overview of essential componets involved in assessment.
